Introducing… MSE’s Deals Alerts service

This week we’ve officially launched the MSE Deals Alerts service, which you can download if you’ve got the Google Chrome internet browser on a desktop computer. It was created by our clever tech team to notify you of the best deals out there as you shop online at major retailers.

The idea is to help you save even more money by ensuring you don’t miss a top deal – we know how frustrating it can be when you buy something and then realise you could have got it cheaper had you known about an offer.

How does it work?

When you visit a retailer’s website on a desktop (sorry, it’s not available on a mobile or tablet), the Deals Alerts service will let you know if there’s a deal available which you might otherwise have missed. Plus the deal will have been fully checked out and verified by our Deals team, so you know it works.

You’ll then be able to click on the icon to take you to our full write-up of the deal, which will give you all the information you need.

We’ve started by focusing on 20 top retailers, including Amazon, Asda, Boots and Tesco (see the full list below), but more will be added later.

How do I get it?

  • The alerts are only available on desktop for the Chrome web browser – so you’ll need to download Chrome if you don’t have it already.
  • Go to the Chrome extension store and install the MSE Deals Alerts extension.
  • It will appear as a small icon in the top right of your browser, and an alert will pop up when you visit a retailer’s website if there’s a deal available.

Which retailers does it cover?

At the moment, just the 20 top retailers below (though we plan to add lots more in future).

  • Amazon
  • Asos
  • Argos
  • Asda
  • Boots
  • Cineworld
  • Debenhams
  • Domino’s
  • Pizza Hut
  • House of Fraser
  • M&S
  • Morrisons
  • New Look
  • River Island
  • Sainsbury’s
  • Travelodge
  • Tesco
  • Odeon
  • Ocado
  • Waitrose

Important: When you install the extension, a box will pop up asking whether you’re happy for it to read and change all your data on the websites you visit‘.

However, the only data the extension reads is the website’s address so that it can notify you when you’re on a website that we have deals for. MSE doesn’t receive any information about the websites you visit, nor is it given to any third parties.

Please let us know what you think

The extension is new and we’re still looking for ways it can be improved. If you have any feedback, please let us know in the comments below, on Twitter @MSE_Deals or on Facebook.

Big thanks to MSE Jermaine who came up with the idea for this alerts service, and has put a lot of hard work into creating it.
